Barrio Santa Cruz is a neighborhood located behind the cathedral in central Seville. It is characterized by narrow winding streets which open onto sunny plazas. This wide and beautiful plaza is at the center of María Luisa park and was built for the Ibero-American Exposition in 1929. It features elaborately tiled bridges over fountain fed waterways and more exquisite tile work along the walls and pavillions of the brick structure. Orange trees and palms offer shaded areas in the sunny plaza, which has a distinctly moorish feel. Families and lovers stroll here on Sunday afternoons.
